My Wee Sister is a Star

by nonny @ 30/11/05 - 12:39:39 pm

I was e mailing my sis this morning, she still lives back on the island and I miss her so much. She is pregnant right now and is not keeping very well so it’s horrible not being able to give her a hug.

She is 5 years younger than me and an absolute wee star. She is tall, slim and gorgeous and when she walks it looks like she is floating. She got married a couple of years ago and she wore the most gorgeous red dress with gold celtic embroidery and she looked so beautiful it was almost like she wasn’t real.

When we were younger I used to look after her because I’m 5 years older but now we are grown ups (or supposed to be) she kind of looks after me. Sisters are funny because even if you don’t speak for a while there’s still this sister bond that doesn’t change, I kind of like knowing that there is this person who knows me so well and is kind of stuck with me no matter what.

When we were younger she used to nick my clothes and then when she got bigger I used to nick hers. Even now when I go home one of the first things I do is have a nosey through her wardrobe and she does the same to mine when she comes to visit, we are both kind of obsessed with shopping and it’s so weird because I have this strange thing that I do, when I fill a glass of water I fill it and empty it 3 or 4 times before I drink it and she does exactly the same thing, it’s bizarre!

Don’t get me wrong though, we are not one of these fluffy, gushy, everything is so perfect kind of sisters. She can be a right pain in the ass and I can be an even bigger one so we fight, we have some proper humdingers and we stomp around saying we hate each other (when I was about 10 she threw my Peaches and Cream Barbie ball gown on the fire, I have never forgiven her for that one) but we always make up.
I love her, she’s my sister.

I cannot wait for her to have that baby! I’m gonna be such a cool auntie!

That's so lovely. I really hope that my daughters retain that bond that you and your sister have.

They already share clothes and stomp around saying how much they hate each other, but they are definitely the best of friends.

Lord help me in their teenage years. I hope they have different taste in boys :DD

You and your sis sound so much like my wife and her sister. I've got two brothers who are much older than me and I never hear from them for years. It's such a shame, but I think boys tend to be more like that. All the best for the forthcoming auntiehood (is that a word?)

Nonny, I am so glad you and your sister get on so well (don't worry about the rows - sisters wouldn't be sisters without a bit of hair pulling!).

I have a sister, but she is very ill and because of that she now has dementia. So - I have a sister in body, but not in mind - my 'sister' is gone. I miss her.

Bless every day you have together.

Nah, it's Mum it's harder for - my sis is 600 miles south, so I don't get to see her that often. That, and when I am down there, it depends on which kids I have with me - she's a bit scary for older kids.

I'm so pleased to hear of such a good relationship. My brother (older) never really got over the sibling rivalry thing and now we have a polite but distant relationship - he cares when he remembers to. Hasn't visited us for 18 years - he lives 400 miles away - but we've visited him numerous times. It's not relly that he doesn't like me (although quite possibly that may be the case), it's more that he doesn't care. I reckon it's maybe time to stop trying.

my cousin and I were raised like twins even though im 7months older. when we were younger i was almost responsible for her, but now she seems to be taking care of me. we are very different, yet i think she would sacrifice everything for me if she had to. it's great that you have such a good relationship with your sister

I've always looked out for my little sister, she's only a couple years younger than me. I still can't get my head around the fact that she got married this year, to a great bloke. She's the most important thing in the world to me.

Nonny it seems like growing up means forgetting about what happened when we were 10 or at least giving it no prominence, loving and being mature is about now - this minute of our life ;)

I have 5 sisters and I gave up wondering where the lions where a while back, upon us all a little rain must fall...

Your right about sister's being a pain in the arse I'm going to have log off in a minute coz my little sis just poured some 'kin ice cubes down my back - she wants to use the computer, I think. But we're close, which is a good job coz I live with the muggy mare. So I know what you mean. But I've never nicked any of her clothes though :)
